A bit about us

I’m looking for someone to join my team as a support worker for a beautiful 11 year old boy with Norries Disease who is blind and has autism and an intellectual disability. He is supported after school 3pm-8pm and on weekends and school holidays. Looking for someone who has availability on at least one of the listed weekdays and one of either fortnightly Saturday mornings 9am-1pm or fortnightly Sundays 10am-3pm or 3pm-8pm. The hours have potential to increase if desired by early next year as one of his current team members will be finishing her degree and moving on. All training and ongoing support is provided by me so no need for prior experience in support work but this is highly regarded. You would need to be mature, nurturing, and to have a passion for working with children and learning new skills as well as the ability to stay calm when child is dysregulated and adapt to ongoing training and feedback. Someone who is either working in or aspiring to work in behaviour support, occupational therapy, speech therapy or physio therapy would be perfect for this role as we work closely with these therapies and integrate goals into what we do with the children on a daily basis. Please note a drivers licence and access to a car is essential for the role. We are looking for a babysitter for our 8.5 year old son Nicholas. We would mostly need help in the afternoon hours, likely 2-3 hours at a time. It will likely be once per week, but the day will vary.
Nicholas is ADHD/autistic, and can be hyperactive or impulsive at times and does need a lot of 1:1 interaction. He is very creative and fun-loving and does really well when he has someone to engage with 1:1. He is verbal, but can sometimes be a little hard to understand, but once you get to know him it's usually fine.
