Tom is a 12 yr old boy with infectious energy, a cheeky demeanour and the giver of the world’s best hugs. He also lives with childhood dementia, which means he needs support for movement, communication, feeding, and daily care. Tom loves all things emergency vehicles, trains and cars. He particularly loves swimming, train rides, science works and farm trips. Tom is visually impaired, so imagination and high energy is a must to help bring other sensory modalities into Tom’s world. We have a team of wonderful carers (a number of whom are graduating at the end of this year). We are looking to add to that team. Ideally, you would be able to commit to at least 3 afternoon shifts a week (3.45-7.15). There are also overnight/before school and weekend shifts available. We are very keen to hear from people who are looking for permanent roles with fixed shifts. If you are looking for longer hours and are happy to do housework, housemanagement and family cooking - just let us know as that is also of interest to us. You don't need experience in disabilities - as you would receive full training with existing carers (but it certainly isn't standard babysitting). Job responsibilities include assisting Tom with mobility (he uses a wheelchair, however he needs support to walk when getting to and from toilet, changing chairs or positions etc); poviding personal care assistance (including toileting, bathing/showering); assisting Tom with meals (he has a PEG, but still eats by mouth with support); implementing various strategies to assist sensory processing challenges and communication limitations; general household chores (cleaning up after Tom); having fun and getting Tom out and about to experience the world!
About you: you’re fun, energetic, and imaginative, ready to dive into creative play, make up silly voices, and go on pretend rescue missions with Tom and his emergency vehicles. You’re reliable and consistent, someone who can build a strong, trusting relationship with Tom and the care team over time. You approach challenges with patience, empathy, and a problem-solving mindset, especially when navigating emotional or behavioural ups and downs. You’re physically capable and confident supporting mobility needs. You're comfortable with personal care (e.g. assisting with toileting, hygiene, feeding). Tom has a large team of allied health professionals, so there’s lots of opportunity to interact with these team members if you are studying in those fields.

We are looking for someone to regularly babysit our gorgeous little boy George (born April 2025) on a regular basis, starting with Wednesday mornings around 9 - midday, and otherwise as required during the week and some Friday or Saturday evenings. No housework expected during these babysitting hours.

From January 2026 we will be looking for a permanent nanny, 3 days per week (ideally Mondays - Wednesdays & Thursdays from 8 - 6pm) as George's mum returns to work. Some light household duties would be expected during these hours, including food shopping, basic meal prep for George and for parents, going out to buy gifts or other things we might need during the week.

Ideally this person would start working with us on a casual basis this year, and transition to more permanent role next year.
