I’m looking for someone to join my team as a support worker for a beautiful 11 year old boy with Norries Disease who is blind and has autism and an intellectual disability. He is supported after school 3pm-8pm and on weekends and school holidays. Looking for someone who has availability on at least one of the listed weekdays and/or Sundays 10am-3pm or 3pm-8pm. The hours have potential to increase if desired by early next year as one of his current team members will be finishing her degree and moving on. All training and ongoing support is provided by me so no need for prior experience in support work but this is highly regarded. You would need to be mature, nurturing, and to have a passion for working with children and learning new skills as well as the ability to stay calm when child is dysregulated and adapt to ongoing training and feedback. Someone who is either working in or aspiring to work in behaviour support, occupational therapy, speech therapy or physio therapy would be perfect for this role as we work closely with these therapies and integrate goals into what we do with the children on a daily basis. Please note a drivers licence and access to a car is essential for the role. We are looking for someone who can make a long term commitment of at last 1 year and the role requires regular weekly work with the child to be able to work with him on the school holidays so I am not able to accept applicants who are looking for temporary or solely school holiday work. The mornings will involve getting the kids sorted and ready for school / kinder, making lunchboxes, and then dropping them both off.
After drop off, you would come home for an hour or so to do a bit of a “reset”. This requires someone who has a fair bit of initiative in knowing what needs doing, for example, tidy the kitchen, load the dishwasher, fold and put away laundry, general tidy up / toys away.

The afternoons would involve school and kinder pick up, coming home, snacks, play and getting dinner organised for the kids.
