Hi! My name is Beth, I'm 23 years old, British, and I am a PhD student at Macquarie University. I'm here in Sydney until 2027 as I complete my doctorate and I'm looking for some part time work as a nanny/babysitter. In the UK I worked on research studies with infants and young children, ages 10 months - 2 years. I have 2 years of this experience, which involved a lot of time interacting with the child, mostly doing some age appropriate tasks with them, as well as some play. My PhD is in developmental psychology and my focus is in the first two years of life, therefore I have advanced knowledge around child development. I also have experience working with older children in research and educational contexts (as a tutor and research assistant). I am trained in pediatric first-aid, and have recently completed my DBS check in the UK (meaning I am allowed to work with children). I am a gentle and caring person, but I can also have a lot of fun!

I have extensive experience with children. As a nanny I looked after 4 boys aged from 3- 14 and then 3 boys Year 1 to year 6, both of these families I stayed with for 2+ years. I am a speech and drama teacher and have been working in private schools since 2005. Since 2010 I have been living onsite as a teacher/boarding supervisor in a private girls boarding school working. I recently resigned from teaching to as I am in the process of studying to obtain my 3rd degree in Bachelor of Law. Last year in 2023 I was working as a ‘Gappy’ at a prep boarding school in England called Cheam School, . I lived on campus where I was rostered with five other Gappys to work between the boarding house as a house mother, in the school classrooms as a teachers assistant, and on the playing fields as coach. The children at the school were aged between 5 and 13. It was a nurturing and rewarding environment for both students and staff. We were encouraged to make the children feel supported and at home, while also making it fun. What I mostly came away with was a respect and understanding how the child and the child’s families each have their own values and to a certain extent routines, which we were encouraged to accommodate and validate as and when we could. My experience has given me the opportunity to see I would like to continue working with children in some capacity. My hours are currently flexible and I am available up to 30 hours a week.
