Online Safety and Security Tips

Safety tips for babysitters and nannies

The purpose of Find a Babysitter is to provide a safe environment for babysitters, nannies and parents.  We are focused on ensuring the platform is safe for babysitters and nannies finding jobs.

We have a number of systems and procedures in place to maintain this integrity.  All of the messages go through our secure platform, so members can keep their details private until they choose to share their email or phone number.

Every parent who posts a job has a paid membership with Find A Babysitter.  This helps reduce any false job ads by fake profiles (found on freemium or free job sites) and ensures our job ads are genuine by real parents in Australia.

It is of the utmost importance to Find A Babysitter that our members have a positive and safe experience when using our site. We monitor the site very closely to ensure that the jobs and profiles meet our guidelines. So this ensures a level of safety and security.

In the unlikely event of issues, here are a few online safety tips that apply to Find A Babysitter (and other online sites in general):

  • Be cautious when a member claims to be overseas or outside of your area/state.
  • Never accept a job or agree to employ a sitter without meeting the member in person first.
  • Avoid requests for electronic money transfers, such as untraceable Paypal or Western Union transfers.
  • Report any suspicious messages to us immediately.
  • If they ask to swap to WhatsApp be wary and insist you stay on Find A Babysitter's secure messaging platform.
  • If they seem hurried and ask you to act very quickly, take your time and slow down the process.
  • If it seems too good to be true, it probably is!
  • Do not reply to an unsolicited email from a parent or sitter that refers to the contact details of a person who is not a Find Babysitter member and could indicate possible fraud.
  • Always ensure you have the latest version of internet browser and antivirus software update on your home and office computers.
  • Keep your username and password details safe and treat them as you would your bank PIN.
