I have been caring for children in different capacities for 7 years. I was an activities coordinator for an after school care programme when I was 18 for one year, caring for 5 - 10 year olds. I was responsible for 15 - 20 children at one time and organized activities from arts and crafts to cooking and sports. I had to cater for the needs of all ages at once which was a challenging but rewarding experience. I then lived in Paris for a year an an au pair and was responsible for 3 girls aged 3, 6 and 9. I had a beautiful year with this family and formed very close bonds with the children, we still keep in touch 3 years later. The youngest 2 girls didn't speak English so every day we had language and cultural barriers to overcome, but by the end of the year we were speaking eachother's language and were as close as family. Back home I had a a few nannying jobs while finishing my degree, the most recent was last year caring for 3 boys aged 6, 9 and 11. I looked after them after school and occasionally in the weekends and evenings. I was responsible for driving them to their many activities and generally keeping them happy and well behaved!
